2014 Lafayette County Juneteenth Celebration Inspirational Speaker -Reverend Lucilla Miller

Rev. Lucilla Miller will be the inspirational speaker at the 2014 Lafayette County Juneteenth Celebration opening ceremony on Saturday, June 21, 2014. The event will be held at the Fairground Park in Higginsville, MO Her presentation will be at 10:00 A.M..



Rev. Miller is a dynamic, God fearing woman of God, who welcomes every opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, she lives to serve. She diligently labors besides her husband of 43 years, Bro. Ronald Miller. (former Superintendent of Bethel AME Church School). They are blessed with three adult children, and thirteen wonderful grandchildren.



Rev. Miller’s Church home is Bethel AME Church, located 2329 Flora Ave. Kansas City, MO. Where she once served as a Licentiate, under the leadership of Rev. Spencer L. Booker, Pastor.

Rev. Miller currently serves as the Pastor of St. James AME Church, 205 S. Conner, Odessa, Missouri.



Rev. Lucilla is a former President of Inner City Women Aglow in the Kansas City South District.

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery. June 19, 1865, union soldiers, led by General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with 2000 Federal troops to issue the order hat the Civil War had ended and that all slaves were free. This was two and half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation that had become official on January 1, 1863.



The Lafayette County Juneteenth Foundation is hosting the 2014 Juneteenth Celebration.  The event will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the the Edwin Schwitzky 4-H Building  in Higginsville, MO. Arron Haynes is the chairperson for the event.



This is a free, family-oriented activity.  The theme is  “Pulling Together and Pumping Up For the 2015  – the 150th Anniversary of Juneteenth!” In addition to an opening ceremony, other activities   include inspirational speakers, presentation of the annual Spirit of Freedom awards, special recognition to the "Friends of the Lafayette County Juneteenth Foundation,:gospel music by the Marshall, MO Powerhouse Ministries C.O.G.I.C.-Praise team children's activities, a dynamic young adult educational panel featuring the 2014 county college graduates,  the "Juneteenth Cafe" - a fish fry and baked goods  fund raiser, vendors, crafts, educational and historical displays.
