2025 Juneteenth Celebration - 20th Celebration

6 pm - 20th Anniversary Opening
Theme: "We've Come This Far By Faith!"

There will be musical performers, a reader’s theatre performance, Juneteenth celebration video, short history notes of our journey from Africa to the United States, and Concessions can be purchased.
Milton Wright
At this time, performers are Jenise and Arielle, Grace Rush, Reverend Eveyln Elmore, and Reverend Liz Linsey. Milton Wright, motivational speaker, will present his "Beatz for Life." Wright is also a professional drummer. Sheila Lee will share a dramatic presentation. There will be short historical presentations, and a reader's theatre group presentation of Langston Hughes' poem, "Freedom's Plow" directed by Reverend Liz Linsey. Col (Ret) Ricky J. Cosby and his wife, Charlotte will be present. She is an author and will have books for sale. We also ask the veterans to come and help us greet this military family that has served and sacrificed for our freedom.
Over our 20 years of hosting Juneteenth celebrations, we have learned that we are more alike than different! Come and help us celebrate!!

Educational presentations for summer school / 3rd grade and up aged children,
Children get to hear historians, educators, children’s book authors, artist, an Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies specialist, and others are our presenters! All will share their expertise.

The children get to meet our guest speaker for the Friday, June 20, 2025 evening program. Col (Ret) Ricky J. Cosby and talk with him up and close!
11:30 am - 1 pm Meet & Greet Community event - Col (Ret) Ricky J. Cosby and his wife, Charlotte who is an author and a former educator will be there. They want to meet you. Come let us know what you are doing. Come and talk with volunteers and workers who serve in our communities and learn more about upcoming events and opportunities. RSVP to Linda Smith at 816-456-6654. Everyone is welcome to come. We will have light refreshments.
1 pm - Forest Grove Cemetery
Older students get to have a sack lunch and ride to Lexington, MO to tour this national historic site. Students will learn about the Negro Baseball League players and the United States Colored Troop veterans who fought in the Civil War and are buried there, plus much more!!
2 pm - Voter Education & Registration - Jessica White, Lafayette County, MO County Clerk

5:30 pm - Pot Of Luck Annual Welcome Dinner - bring your favorite casserole and dessert. We will supply the meat, bread, and drinks!
6:45 pm - Evening Program Guest Speaker, Col (Ret) Ricky J. Cosby.
Book Sale

10 am - 2:30 pm
3 on 3 basketball tournament at Fairground Park basketball court. We aren't reminiscing about the tournament held in 2005. We are doing our thing this year.
12:30 pm - Fish Fry at the community building. Skilled cooks are assisting. You can contribute by bringing sides and desserts.
The afternoon will be filled with displays, table games, Boots on The Ground Line Dance, a “Having Our Say Rap Session with the Elders” that will be moderated by Reverend Alvin Dixon, pastor of the Second Baptist Church in Richmond, MO, and a Douglass School update and possible tour if renovations allow, etc. We are open to musicians sharing the music, too. Any families who have created dance routines are welcome to share.
